Jiuliqiao Fm

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
early Sinian (early Ediacaran), Z (28)

Province:
Anhui, Jiangsu

Type Locality and Naming

North-central Anhui. The Jiuliqiao Fm was named by Zhu Zhaoling et al. in 1964. The naming locality is situated in Jiuliqiao 9 km north of Shouxian City along the Shou-Feng Road and the typical section is the Diangeda section, Shouxian County, Anhui Province.

Synonym: (九里桥组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Jiuliqiao Fm is a suite of pelitic limestone and it was subdivided into two parts. Lower part is dominated by gray to dark gray medium-to thin-bedded silty limestone. Upper part consists of gray to dark gray limestone and marl. With a persistent lithology, the formation is distributed in Huainan, Fengyang Mountain, where it is dominated by light gray thin-bedded marl and in Sishilichangshan of Huoqiu County, the dolomitic component increases and locally there is occurrence of dolomite. The thickness of the Jiuliqiao Formation varies from 26 to 119 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey limestone

Age

See discussion on the age of Liulaobei Fm, which is conformable below the underlying Sishilichangshan Fm, of which its upper member is apparently assigned to Sinian. Therefore, even the schematic stratigraphic column has indicated a "Cryogenian" placement, it is placed in the lower Ediacaran for this graphic column.
